11.11.2014 "HAPPY HOUR"- "APERITIVO MILANESE" - EVERYBODY DRINKS,EATS & HAS FUN!

“Happy hour”- “Aperitivo Milanese” – is the most famous and beloved of all Milanese (and not only them) way to get relaxed after work, have a square and cheap supper,  have fun and nice talk.

First “Happy hour” speaks for itself — this is the end of a work day and you can relax in any bar sipping a cocktail and eating various delicious things. This Anglo-Saxon tradition settled down in Milan quite well, and some people even insist the tradition appeared in Milan, in bar “Camparino” in 1915 – the bar exists today in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and “Happy hour” or “Aperitivo Milanese” or just “Ape” officially derive from here.

However what is it and why is it so popular?

“Ape Milanese” starts at about 18-18.30 when office workers and students finish their work and study, tidy themselves up (you bet!) and go to bars to have a talk. Bar and cafe doors are usually provided with «Happy hour» sign and price, but even if no sign is seen and in the bar, that you liked , you have noticed a buffet table laden with various snacks, no doubt – this is “Happy hour”.

When in the bar, order something to drink: cocktail like true Milanese or something else (the price will be €10 at most) and at this the most interesting part of it begins: all snacks served as buffet supper (and these can be both hot and cold dishes, pizza, focaccia, cheese, sausages and so on) are included in the cocktail price. It means you can take and put on your plate anything you like with no additional payments! Very convenient and profitable ;-) Many bars entertain their visitors with music and on the whole create the atmosphere matching “Happy hour” - the work day is over, we are partying ;-). Everybody drinks, eats and has fun.

This is also a good opportunity to plunge into the true Milanese atmosphere, meet somebody – Milanese young people go to bars exactly for this – practice both one's Italian and English in a relaxed atmosphere.

In general there are so many reasons to get in love with “Aperitivo Milanese”!
