27.07.2015 MUSEUMS IN CENTRAL MILAN MOST CONVENIENT FOR VISITING AND AT MINIMUM EXPENSE!

Let’s start with the very center of the city – Duomo Cathedral and visiting it is a sacred duty of all tourists. I have already written that starting May 2015 visiting Duomo Cathedral is chargeable – €2, but the entrance fee also includes visiting Duomo Museum, one of the most interesting, in my opinion, Milanese museum. Please see here for more details.

PALAZZO REALE – which is ‘Royal Palace’ in English. This is a historical building boasting of a magnificent neoclassic facade constructed in 1138.

The building used to be a residence of Milanese dukes; and now its gorgeous halls accommodate Duomo Museum and most prestigious international art exhibitions staggering each other: for example the exhibition of the works by Marc Chagall was held here, then the exhibition of the paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, and later it was replaced with the entirely unique exhibition of the masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci. So I strongly recommend paying attention to the showbill above the central entrance to Palazzo Reale or follow the showbill on my web-sitesmiley.

Where is it situated: on the right hand side from the central entrance to Duomo Cathedral, just 100 m away. Please watch the video.

MUSEO DI NOVECENTO – another museum on the right hand side from the central entrance to Duomo, located literally two steps away from Palazzo Reale.

Here you will see the works by the XX-th century artists and sculptors: from Pablo Picasso to Modigliani , from futurism to abstractionism, and four floors of the museum contain all this. By the way, on the last floor of the museum you will have a good view down the square in front of Duomo Cathedral . And it is worth it, I recommend!

Another not insignificant detail: in scorching summer heat (and the summer temperature in Milan can reach 400C + high humidity) you can have a rest a little bit and refresh yourself: air conditioners work impeccably everywhere, and you enjoy sitting in soft arm-chairs and watching the most eminent paintings.

The entrance fee is €6. The free entrance is granted each Tuesday from 14.00.

On the left hand side from the central entrance to Duomo Cathedral you will see the Arch of Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery.

The Gallery itself is a sightseeing attraction of Milan, and a walk underneath its glass dome is an unalloyed pleasure, but after leaving the Gallery to the La Scala square you will see two more magnificent museums:

LA SCALA THEATRE MUSEUM: I have already written about La Scala Theatre and its museum here, my only addition will be the main point about the museum is an opportunity to enter the box and see the main stage and auditorium in its full luxury and splendor.

Of course you won’t see any play – the ticket to La Scala Theater is very expensive, but the entrance fee to La Scala Museum is only €6.

PALAZZO MARINO: Since 1861 this historical building of the 16-th century has accommodated the city hall.

And quite recently due to EXPO 2015 the Milanese municipality opened its doors for everyone and absolutely free!

Here you can enjoy the magnificent decoration of the hall, well-preserved frescos, paintings, tapestries and everything’s in the delicate Italian taste!

Moreover you will be provided with an audio-guide for 10 languages including Russian. The excursions are given Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 12.30 and 14.00 to 17.00. The groups should not exceed 20 persons, so my tip: come in the morning by 9.30, and you will have more chance to get a free excursion. And it is worth it!
